How to get vacation pictures on your IPhone to Google Drive

When I go on vacation these days, my IPhone 5 is what I use to take pictures.  I could use an upgrade to get a better quality camera but for now it works fine and it is what I have in my possession most of the time.  Go with what is easy, right?  So after a vacation, I may want to save some pictures from my iPhone onto my Google drive to use for a blog post. For example, here is a gorgeous pic of the Flatirons in Boulder Colorado that I took on a recent trip there.

To get this picture here on this blog post, this is what I did:
1. If you don't have it downloaded already, download the Google Drive app on to your iPhone.
2. Sign in to your Google account in the Google Drive App
3. Now you should be in the app all logged in.
4. If you want to put the pictures into a new folder click the blue + circle and add a new folder giving it a meaningful name such as "Jean's Colorado trip 2017"
5. Then open up that new folder and click the blue + circle and upload from your Iphone Photos and Videos
6. Now you can select what photo album that you want to get pictures from on your IPhone.
7. I select My Photostream
8. Then I tap on the pictures that I want to upload to my Google Drive.
9. Then tap on blue upload "UPLOAD" in the upper right side of the screen
10. You can see the photos uploading on your screen.  I usually just let them hang out and finish without doing anything else on the phone until they are completed uploading.
Now you can log into your Google Apps and use the photos that you have put in your Drive.

Pokemon Go - Is it a fad?

Pokemon Go - Is it a fad?
No doubt you have heard someone mention Pokemon Go in the past month or so since it's release.  It is a mobile version of the Game Boy video game that was popular in the 1990's . Most cell phones allow you to play the app and it uses the gps on the phones to allow the player to track and catch Pokemon characters and things.  The catch is you have to be moving to make progress in the game so suddenly kids are getting out on their bikes, running and walking to play the game.  I for one am delighted to hear that there is something encouraging kids, teens and adults to get up and move!

I was recently at tech conference in my state, Vermont and the question came up as to whether using Pokemon Go for the upcoming school year should be allowed or not.  Besides the fact that it would be next to impossible to block the game technologically at school, what came to mind for me is to use the health component of this game to create some healthy activities using Pokemon Go.
How about:

  • Scavenger hunts using the game
  • Walking groups using the game locally
  • Competing with other classmates with goals to build a "gym" or work on high scores in the game
  • After school club
  • Health class activities
  • Advisory activities at the H.S. level
What do you think about the use of this game in an educational environment?  Leave me a comment below.

Forgot Password? How to prevent forgetting passwords!

Forgot your password? How to prevent forgetting your Logins!

Are you using the same password with many of your online accounts that you sign into? Do you use one generic password and username you use on all your major sites. Don’t wait until your site gets hacked and you have a lot of hassles to deal with to protect your acounts.   LastPass - a fantastic tool that remembers all your login credentials in one vault accessible only by you.
It is the last password you will have to remember.
Every time you login to a site or sign up to a new tool or app, asks whether you want to remember your password, and you simply say yes, save it under a category and you’re done.
Autofill can be set up for sites you use frequently.
It is  convenient when you are using a computer that is not yours.  You just login in to the LastPass website and then you can access sites you often use and log into them!

Backup your files, clean up your computer and delete what you don't need!

·         Clean your keyboard. After eating at your desk, crumpling papers, opening boxes, who knows what junk and residue is in your keyboard? Use a duster to eliminate any nasty particles and buildup in your keyboard to make it look like new again.
·         Go through all your emails. . Take some time out each day to delete old emails and unsubscribe from subscriptions that you get that are no longer of interest!
·         Clean up your digital trail. Remember that blog you started, wrote a few posts for, then never logged in again? Make sure if an employer Google’s your name that all content is appropriate and relevant. Deactivate any old accounts you no longer use, although keep in mind that information may not be gone forever.
·         Delete what you're not using . Go through your phone or tablet and delete any apps that you haven't used in a couple months, so they're not taking up space on your device. Same goes for files on your computer -- delete what you don't need.
·         Backup your files. Make sure that you are backing up your files to an external hard drive or out to the cloud.  You will thank me later.
